Coming April during 2 ½ days you’ll have the opportunity to taste more than 100 of Spanish most interesting and best wines, explained by experts and producers, in a an exciting location just outside Barcelona!

Herewith the details for this exciting long weekend:


LOCATION: the cellar of Cava producer GRAMONA in SAN SADURNI

(minor changes can still be applied)

Day 1 (Friday April 26th)

14.00 hrs
Arrival in the old Gramona family bodega, reception with Cava and tapas

15.30 hrs
Visit in small groups of members of Corpinnat
Corpinnat is a recently created association of (at the moment) ten top producers of Cava, all situated in the heart of the Penedès region.

Walk around tasting and dinner at Gramona with all the Corpinnat producers and their wines

21.30 hrs
End of the first day

Day 2 (Saturday April 27th)
from 9.30 till 18.30 hrs, with lunch at 14 hrs

Three masterclasses:
Vintage variation: A vertical tasting of La Rioja Alta, the famous producer of wonderfull traditional Reserva and Gran Reserva wines from Rioja, presented by their winemaker Julio Saenz.

Albariza: Jerez is not all about flor or solera. Jerez is also about it’s great terroir in which the unique Albariza soil plays an important role. Winemakers Joaquin Gomez and Luis Perez will show the effects of albariza through a range of Sherry and table wines, all produced in the best albariza vineyards.

One region, various wines: In a relatively short span of time Ribera del Duero has become one of the superstars of the Spanish wine scene. In this masterclass a local winemaker will present a range of different wines and wineries from the area, showing the different philosophies behind them. Tremendous quality, and yet very different.

Day 3 (Sunday April 28th ) from 9.30 till 18 hrs, with lunch at 14 hrs

Three masterclasses:
Green Spain: organic: though slowly, organic and bio-dynamic wines are taking a position in the Spanish wine production. Some of them actually counting among Spain’s best. Supported by producers Albet I Noya (first organic producer in Spain) and Gramona (bio-dynamic) you will be taken through the best that Spain has to offer currently in organic and bio-dynamic.

Green Spain: Galicia: the region of Galicia offers a completely different, rather unique range of wines from its five DO’s. The cold and wet Atlantic climate provides ideal circumstances for fresh and complex white wines, but though in smaller quantity, there are also perfectly adapted, mostly unknown red varieties to be found.
Present will be Algueira, leading producer in mythical Ribeira Sacra.

Minor varieties, great wines: compared to France, Portugal and Italy, Spain seems to have much less diversity to offer in grape varieties. But the picture is changing rapidly and this tasting will take you through varieties that may be hardly known but do show very interesting potential. Think of Rufete, Prieto Picudo, Albillo and the likes.


The Spanish Wine Forum is open to anyone who loves good (Spanish) wines! The language will be English. Places are limited so participation goes on a first come first serve basis.

Not included are: transport to San Sadurni*, hotel**, optional dinner on Saturday in Barcelona***, your personal travel insurance.

- * Transport to San Sadurni: easy by train which leaves from the center of Barcelona (Plaça de Catalunya), taking 43 minutes plus a 10 minutes-walk from the railway station to Gramona.
- ** though there are some lodging possibilities in and around San Sadurni, I suggest to stay in Barcelona where you can find suitable accommodation at any given price level. I am happy to provide further suggestions if needed.
- *** I will soon announce the dinner on Saturday evening in Barcelona, to which you can participate if you want; I am negotiating at the moment with one of the new Michelin starred places in town
